Anyone else here feel like their bosses in the feds maybe either slightly incompetent or just don’t care about the job? It sadly makes me miss private practice sometimes. Any tips on how to navigate? Sigh.

Quit. I did. BEST decision I ever made even if it was a pay cut.

I've been in state and federal work for 14 years now and the incompetence you see varies by department and division. I work with some very smart people who never sought management or rotated in and out of it and prefer to be individual contributors because they get to do cutting edge work without the overhead of admin tasks.

On the other end of the spectrum are the people retiring in place, the ones who do just enough to keep the homeostasis of the environment. It's not great for new employees because there's little change and growth. But it should otherwise offer a relatively low stress and good work life balance to focus on pursuits outside the office

Does it look bad on my profile to leave my current job within the probation period, for a more lucrative offer abroad. How do I do the explaining to my new job and what reasons should i give to the current job to have quit so early.
I feel really bad that my current company hired me at a raise and are investing into my on-boarding etc.

I was called into HR because a coworker overheard a conversation between me and another colleague taking about cable/streaming shows that we watched or recorded. I mentioned that I recorded a few true-crime shows. My colleague jokingly said, "I hope I'm not on your hit-list!". I replied, "Not anymore." HR pulled me in to say a coworker complained about me talking about hit-lists, and they were now scared. HR wouldn't say who complained, so do I have a right to ask about the resolution to this?
