My friend's husband is going to law school at night while working full time at a firm as a patent clerk. It's doable, but he's tired all of the time and he didn't do as well in his classes as he'd like (but honestly it doesn't matter for him because his firm is going to promote him when he's passed the bar). His program also takes longer than full time law school too, but for him I think it's worth it.
Apologies for the late response. Thank you for this info, it's really helpful
I did this. Worked 40 hours a week and commuted 1.5 hours each way for class at night. Made for 6am-11pm days on Monday-Thursday and 8 hour days on the weekends for studying. My program was 4 years, so it definitely takes some commitment. Had to take out student loans for tuition, but I think it was worth it.
I thoroughly enjoyed my law school experience. Because I was in the night program, many of my classmates were also working professionals who provided valuable, practical insight that students straight out of undergrad couldn’t provide. I also felt that my professors respected us much more because our average age was much higher than that of the full-time day students.
As far as debt is concerned, I’m at $250k. Speaking candidly, I hated undergrad and my grades reflected it. A few years of work experience after undergrad made me realize that education was more than just a piece of paper. Because of my sub-par undergrad performance, I wasn’t able to overcome a 3.0 undergrad gpa to get a scholarship to law school, so I had to pay full sticker price. As it relates to my debt, I pay 10% of my income to service the debt and after 20 years, the remaining balance is forgiven. I look at this as a “tax” to make me feel better about it.
