Yes. And if they are high pressure to close you I always take that as a bad sign. But once I committed, didn't look back. No point. Just understand the options, flexibility where extra costs might creep in, and that the contract reflects exactly what they are saying. Do not be afraid of asking for language changes/ clarifications. Even if they don't make them, you will have a paper trail.
Good luck! And Congratulations!
When I was looking at venues it made sense to book at a place that provides full service. It just seemed more expensive to book a venue that was just the space and then cater the food

I have had in person and virtual calls with almost all of my vendors. I’m in the southwest. I chose an all inclusive venue because I’m not around family and need the help. The venue is 12k and provides photo, video, floral, catering, cake, onsite coordination and venue coordination. I bring the dress, makeup, hair, suits, minister, and booze.
The only time I didn’t meet with a vendor I really am regretting. I bought flowers online got cold feet and the vendor is dragging their feet to refund me.

It’s pretty good but where I live there is TONs of competition for wedding venues. For any upgrades it’s extra so that will be inevitable.
Many choose elopement or destination weddings to bring down cost as well.
We negotiated to do our tasting before committing to our caterers. This worked out very well, because our first choice caterers (lowest price of the caterers approved by our venue) ended up being really bad at the tasting. When we tried the next-choice caterers, they didn’t offer the tasting free, but we negotiated a clause in our contract that said we were allowed to cancel the contract after the tasting and they’d refund our deposit and just charge us for the tasting in that scenario. An outrageous £350, but we figured we’d just consider it an expensive date. It worked out, though, as the second caterers’ tasting was INCREDIBLE! We trust their judgment so much that we changed our vegetarian dish after the tasting, and I don’t even feel the need to go taste the new one - I know if they serve it, it’ll be good.
Our venue recommended a bartending vendor, and they also offered a cocktail tasting, which put our minds at ease.
