I would suggest you to sit in a class. Ask the admission office if it’s possible to sit in a class for one class session. Or you can audit a class. Do not do online or zoom class, it’s not worth it. Go attend live class. If don’t need the degree then just audit the classes and save money.
In a typical seminary you will take 2-3 Bible classes. It’s not enough to learn the Bible.
Fuller Seminary.
I don’t understand the second question.
I’m a CPA. MDiv degree isn’t helpful. I went because God told me to go.
It was worth it because God told me to go.
Master’s Seminary. They have satellite campuses and I believe an online platform. There are two types of preachers, those who exposit the Word and those who should quit!
Third this! Currently attending Master’s Seminary. Think it’s hard (but not impossible) to find seminaries with a high fidelity to scripture amidst all the shifting in the evangelical church. Happy to talk about considering seminary or w/e if it would be helpful.
Isnt seminaries a term traditionally for Catholics.
I am evangelical but the more and more I learn about the 50k denominations of christianity, I am starting to think about 49,999 of them are bs created by men who wanted some power and followers. Like saying there are seminaries for our denominations because we all originated from Catholicism.
The amount of christian denominations is mind numbing and quite pathetic.
No, seminary is just a term that means a theological college. It’s used by Jews, Catholics, and Christians alike.
We don’t all originate from the Catholic Church. We come from the early church recorded in the book of Acts. There are many denominations eg Orthodox denominations in Eastern Europe and a North Africa that never branched off the Catholic church . They were part of the early “Undivided Church” and grew separately.
Most other denominations branched off following the reformation, though. This fact alone doesn’t make them wrong. One needs to consider where Jesus and God’s word is being taught and honored. Jews consider Jesus and his followers as having branched off from the original Jewish teachings. Does this make Jesus and all of Christianity wrong?
It is only a tradition for the Catholic Church to trace itself straight back to Saint Peter. There is no historical evidence or recording of it, and it only started several hundred years after Peter’s death. Will cite here a purely historical source to avoid being accused of bias, but if you read the Catholic Church’s teachings themselves on this, you’ll see that this belief of being the original church is only tradition.
Also, preaching is just making slideshows for our Lord and God! It’s just like consulting!
Unfortunately seminary does not teach you how to make slideshows. So if you don’t have an assistant then you need to spend time making cool slides. Good luck!
Thanks y’all. I’ll look into auditing D1. Feel like God is also calling me to go and potentially be a preacher, don’t know where to go though.
Honestly I don’t know if seminary will make you a good preacher. Spending time with God will definitely make you a good preacher.
One thing I liked about Fuller was that it has so many classes you could take in your own pace. So it helped me to work and attend school part time. Other seminaries are little smaller so you have to follow their schedule. But Fuller is quarter semester system. Each class is 10 weeks so it goes quick and I wish I had to more time to digest what I learned from class. Fuller has interesting classes such as theology in films or theology in television or theology in pop culture or theology in sports. Book a vacation to LA and come for a tour of the school. I was going to choose between Gordon Conwell and Fuller. And I saw the light, southern California light. Haha. It’s nice to study in Southern California.
I haven’t gone but I’m inspired by you! Listen to where God is calling you. God bless!
I attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School as part of Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL many years ago. It’s interdenominational. Because of the proximity, I had friends that went to Moody Bible College in Chicago or Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL.
All good schools and (back then) have evening programs for those that just want to become a seminarian without giving up their day jobs. Sit in on some live classes or even audit some classes before jumping in fully.
I’m a full time strategy consultant and the storytelling skills and the “dissect the verses” training really helped me in my day job.
