If you are capped with Amex, then eliminate Delta.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with an airline card and would go with a generic travel rewards card like Chase Sapphire or Capital One Venture, especially since you have airline choices in NYC.
Depends on a lot of factors. AA doesn’t have a transfer partner and CC spend counts directly towards status, so their cards can be attractive overall.
I think the delta Amex plat/silver card ($295 annual fee) pays for itself with the benefits.
With airlines, though, at this point, either pick one you hate the least and concentrate travel with them / their partners or go free agent.
Otherwise, I think JetBlue has no fee and low fee card options and their flights are pretty reasonable to redeem on points.
The Citi AAdvantage cards are pretty decent. 3 different levels depending on what annual fee/benefits you want.
And as I mentioned above, spend on those count as loyalty points towards status.
