A friend got this offer a month ago and I had interviewed for it too (though I didn’t get the offer). 110k base, 20k RSUs vesting over 4 years, 15k sign on for the level 60 Corp strat manager role (title is manager, but you’re an IC). It’s a terrible offer comp wise for tech, but the work seems cool. They think about strategy across Microsoft and do pet projects for Satya. Seems like a great jumping off point if you want to ride through Microsoft (folks there often switch to PM or even skip being a PM and go one level higher, apparently) since you get a lot of senior exec exposure. The work seems basically like a strategy consulting you’d do at a consulting firm, just in-house. WLB seemed fine, seemed like it was 8-8 on the hard days, 8-5ish otherwise
Nope, sorry
Dang 110 is low af. What the heck?
Yeah, friend tried negotiating, but no dice
How many YOE is needed for this role?
It’s a manager “title” only. You’re still an IC. The comp is also terrible. Other roles that are similar, like Google BizOps and Strategy, pay far more, and at least at McKinsey, you are paid more at that tenure even here (base + bonus). Even my lowest tech offers were 120 base, with most having TC closer to 200-250. It’s a cool role with cool growth opportunities within Microsoft, but the comp is definitely not good for the YOE.
Thanks for sharing Mckinsey1 figures now why I didn’t get an interview, base is too low for my expectations
The quality of talent in that group seems exceptional. We had a two people move into our group (product) and they are just amazing.
