Any Spotify people here? Noticed there’s an AM role going at the moment in the UK but not sure what experience level it is. For reference I’ve got 6 years in ad sales experience with 3 years management (both in music industry). Would this be comfortable or is it worth holding out for AD?

I’m in between projects. I have been for a while now. So if anyone is looking for a freelance copy and u/x writer, put me in coach! I’m available to work.
Check out my portfolio and let me know if we’re a good profit match.

There’s a VP of Program Management in my dept who has one and she says it’s pretty irrelevant in our industry. She says the PMP is mostly geared towards life and death situations (i.e. construction and engineering). But regarding advertising, probably not applicable and might not be worth the investment. She also mentioned that she doesn’t use her PMP in real life situations at work — something to think about and consider.
Another thing to consider about the PMP is that it’s expensive. You need to pay for the prep courses, pay to take the test, and pay again to renew your cert. — which I believe a renewal is required every 3 years.
She recommended getting your SCRUM master. It’s cheaper and is more applicable since PMs in our industry succeed more when they are agile due to the unknown and roller coaster requests from clients (and account management not having a backbone to say no to those requests or saying yes without checking with the team first).
Hope this helps!
It’s useless in creative
I got my certification not because it was “worth it” in the business necessarily but because it was worth it for me in life. You learn a lot of skills that can help you manage any project, not just complete your day to day tasks. For example, I learned sooo much more about finances and earned value management than I had ever learned in my job. I didn’t NEED it to get my work done but I’ve been able to bring more to the table by creating earned value templates in excel that the other PMs wouldn’t know how to do so we can better manage our scope.
Basically, if you just want to grow or if you’re looking for a job outside of advertising ever, it’s a pretty useful course.
FYI there is a free course on Lynda.com (that a lot of companies will pay for you to have access to) that counts as all of your hours. Then you just need to buy the book which is less than $50 so it’s not that expensive; just time intensive
I don’t have it, and I’m pretty happy with where I stand, knowing friends / colleagues with the certification. I’m not convinced (yet) that it’s more than a piece of paper.
It sets you apart from other candidates when interviewing
