Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

You'd probably have more success making an argument and just negotiating a good raise, don't you think? Is the discrepancy so huge that you think you couldn't negotiate the raise though? I should try this out, I have no idea how underpaid I am.
You would think so. It also depends on how much people trust AI. AI just takes published data already out there, it's not secretly concocting a new metric to request pay.
A couple weeks ago I found out a competitor is paying a lower-level position roughly $15k-$25k more than what I make. They don't offer remote work, so I can't make the jump. Compared to what I see online for job postings, my salary should be even higher. According to the AI salary "report," I'm underpaid by $30k-$60k, leaning towards the higher end because I'm not average.
I even got an industry salary report and found that those numbers aren't too far off AI's numbers.
If I did the full work of the 6-7 different roles I do now, rather than taking the core responsibility of most and filling in for the rest, AI puts my salary in the $175-$200+ range.
How did you do it? I have never heard of that, I want to try it. That's very interesting.
That's interesting, but I would imagine your management will be unmoved by it. You would be better served by making a case for the value you bring to the company. Citing stats an AI tool scraped from the web might actually undermine your case. Upper management is fascinated by AI because they think they can get work out of it without paying. But they won't put any credence in it if it says to pay someone more.
That’s a good idea! Going to try this just because I’m curious haha
Interesting idea. I’m going to have to give it a try now
