Careful with UX in big agencies. They don't usually have the time or support (internally even) for real UX research. And you will soon find yourself as a stall mechanism for the rest of the team to buy time with accounts. At the end of the day, you will mostly be reduced to wireframes, with only some basic best practice logic to defend them.
Yes strategy is also generally seen as a great stall mechanism to buy time by the other teams, but at least you can creatively cherry pick stats and do some interpretive dancing to whip clients into a exhaustive overwhelmed frenzy.
UX will probably leave you underwhelmed if you aren't at a place with and extraordinary UX focus.
My role combines elements of both- so even though I never transitioned I have some insight. You’ll be able to add value as a ux designer if you bring your strategy background, but you’ll also need to prove you have design skills. Start building a portfolio that shows your ability to translate strategy into information architecture, content strategy, and interaction design. Read, get to know the field, and demonstrate that you’re serious. Finally, most likely a smaller shop is the best fit- somewhere you’ll be expected to wear multiple hats anyways. Go in with a portfolio and an elevator speech about why you transitioned, and consider positioning yourself as a “ux strategist”. Don’t be lazy about it!
Digitas 1 sounds like you know nothing about UX
Probably? 🤷♀️
Meh UX be boring me thinks
All the UX designers I know are looking to do more strategy...
