At some companies, if you do a lateral c level move, some depts have higher pay ranges than what you may be currently in. It all comes down to the pay band for me for lateral c levels. I'll move lateral if it's a salary and career advancement opportunity.
This would be a lateral external opportunity with a small base pay increase and a slightly higher bonus potential, but I imagine worse benefits/insurance (my current company is just so good I can’t imagine anything being as good).
I have, I would even argue it was a moderate downgrade (debatable). I left a toxic environment where I also clearly had no internal growth opportunities after making my desires for a lateral move internally clear. It was worth it because otherwise I was stuck.
Ah man. In my experience, there are good people in every job and some bad nuggets in each job. So getting a new work crew isn’t the worst thing compared to salary, responsibilities, etc. I typically lose touch with the coworkers once they or I leave.
I have made several lateral, external moves because my industry tends to thrive on contract workers. Long story.
The most recent one was a great fit with the new team, and great pay. but the company support structure wasn’t there. I have a hearing loss and their tools for accessibility just wasn’t enough to support me.
I’m now back at a former company that does have a great disability support. I’m back as a contractor but I hope to move back as an employee and hope there might be a decent pay bump. But this former company is pay conservative… so we’ll see.
I was with the new company about 6 months. With my old company, I started networking with recruiters and got back in as a contractor. Luckily I left on good terms so a lot of internal folks supported me with the new manager
To exit a toxic environment. Still TBD.
Are you on the job search or just moved latterly to a new role?
