Funny you say that as our clients sometimes wonder the same about EY but let's not quibble, this is not the forum for that. Let's get back to the topic of Dad's helping Dad's.
Does GW software count as consulting?
I would like to send my kids to a public school in a nice school district...but this is because both my wife and i went through public school and the wealthier neighborhoods habe coursework that rivals some universities'
Yes. I was homeschooled, my wife went through public school. She's a teacher who has taught both private and public in the US, and private abroad. We're concerned about the focus on test scores over learning. Homeschooling is certainly on the table.
@deloitte digital - homeschool - neat! Serious question, did you feel like you had unique issues socializing into the college environment? I know a lot of people habe feelings about homeschooled kids - just wondering if you had to explain that alot and if people were receptive.
McB1, I know this is late, but better late than never.
I ended up studying in Europe, and didn't really talk a lot about being homeschooled. My parents didn't homeschool for religious reasons, unlike the vast majority of homeschooling parents. Fortunately, my parents didn't isolate me, so I have never been socially awkward. That said, the transition wasn't terribly challenging. I had the academic chops to make it (wish I'd have focused more on math in HS, tbh), and the German university system is a lot more self-motivated and imho focused more on learning than grades (that's changed somewhat in the last 10 years). Less social pressures, too, than in the US. So the socialization wasn't an issue, and I stuck out more for being American than for being homeschooled. I only rarely brought it up, and then it was more of a novelty than anything else. (Side note: you want to know a group that literally stuck out? Waldorf school alum. They were readily obvious to everyone.)
As for homeschooling my own kids, I would do it for academic reasons, not because of my faith (yes, I'm religious). This isn't the norm, but it's a growing group. And I'd make sure my kids are frequently around others and not be a helicopter parent or one scared that my kid will somehow be corrupted by interactions with others (that's a thing in homeschooling circles).
