I used to work at CR. Happy to answer any specific questions you have. In short, it’s a public accounting firm. It’s a great place to earn some experience but in general you don’t want to be in public accounting for too long in my opinion - the compensation just isn’t there for the hours and time that you put in, and the nature of the business is more of a helter skelter fast paced dumpster fire. This is not a specific problem for CR but rather an industry problem. I’d say it’s a great firm to get a few years experience and then to try to bounce soon after a promotion (ideally you’d leave after your promotion to manager, the possible exits just get so much better, but if you leave after being promoted to senior, that’s fine too)

Yea figure it has the same issues as every other large firm . Was more looking if there were any specific issues that make it worse than others. Doesn’t seem that way thanks for the response

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

Hello All,

Recently I was reached out by a recruiter at Meta for ML Engineer role. I have more than 5 years of experience in ML but I am not ready/prepared for an interview at Meta. What should I do? Should I just reject the opportunity or at least give it a try?

If I schedule an interview, can anyone help me with resources which can help me prepare in 15 days or so.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

I have a tax question. My father in law passed away in 2020 and we inherited his house. We are still in the probate process and we haven't got the house title. However, we have been paying the mortage and interest since we inherited the house. We filed the tax return for deceased person last year. Can we claim the mortgage interest deduction this year on our joint return (even though the 1099 will have my father in law's name)? Really appreciate any help!
