Whoa. 1 year non billable? Say no.
One year non billable? Gtfo. I’d be pretty blunt about the fact that this would ruin utilization metrics and therefore any bonus potential, so unless this MD could somehow prevent that then they can kick rocks
At KPMG it would. Why would your director want you to be non billable? He/she must know it would adversely affect you
I get the impression that we are not that competitive in the market, so clients are not willing to pay for junior resources to sit around all day as they might for the big 4. It happened in my first three months, where I was on client site but my hours were being wiped before going to finance.
The director says that the client can’t be expected to pay for my ‘learning’. Interested to hear other opinions on this
Ask what this is going to do to your evaluation for the next two years when you cannot be compared to your peers. If they are honest, they will admit that you just won’t be compared and therefore will get a middle of the road grade.
This has impact to your money and your career. I’d want an clear explanation of evaluation comparisons before I said yes
Just because it is an internal project and non client facing it does not mean that the project is not billable. Am sure it is a billiable code and won't hurt the utilization. Clarify it with the director.
I never meant it like that D4! I meant that the big4 brand is more prestigious than my company so probably has bigger margins/less tight on cost of resourcing?
It’s not billable to client. You will still get utilization. Since it is your second year it’s not a big deal
Don’t assume it’s billable for you. You need to clarify specifically that your hours on the project will show up in your utilization metric, even if they are not billed to the client. Get this in writing, and also get the expected non-billable hours that should be counted in your utilization in writing.
Project margin is your Director’s problem, not yours.
