Summaries and objectives are typically a waste of space unless you are changing industries/careers.
I pretty much always skim over the objective to get to the experience/education. Accomplishments in previous roles are what matter.
However, if you really want to use one, the suggestion of using it as a cover letter is a great thought as long as you keep it to 1-2 lines. For example, “my X years of experience in _____ doing _______ interests me in the ____ opportunity at XY. The core values of ______ at XY match what I’m looking for long-term due to my passions for _____.“ Try to reduce any fluff but keep it personalized :)
A program manager at Indeed recommended I include a professional summary at the top of my resume as a short intro/cover letter.
I've gotten a much better response rate on my resume since I changed formatting!
