My dad (bless him) thinks he’s helping by making me sit down and just ‘look’ for internships on random job sites and company sites that have nothing even remotely related to what i need (and posted 30+ days ago). Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. Just got to know that my former employer started DEI initiative in the company.

CEO made 6 men SVP, the day after DEI report was published with scathing reviews on it's culture. The company only has 1200 employees.

She then went ahead to make an announcement about how badly it looked given the optics and how she was committed to "diversity".

This is also largest Canadian payment processor. I can't stop laughing at virtue signalling and lip service.

I recommended a candidate for hire to a manager that reports directly to me. This person is a perfect match, but wanted the manager to obviously recommend. It has to be a fit. The manager just told me my recommendation is not her top pick. I feel frustrated because as much as we talk about the position, I wonder if we are mot aligned on criteria. What do I do? Do I push more for the person I want or will I cause an issue with the hiring manager? How do I get her to see this person’s value?

Also, if a sophomore or junior doesn’t get a finance-related summer internship (I.e tech) and aims for an IB SA or FT position, is it harder to break in?
