Are you guys personally invested in the products that you manage? As in, are you a user? Do you have a personal interest in the product? Have you managed a product that you don't particularly care for? And how is that going?

I’ve done both. One product everyone uses and I felt I was making an impact, but there were also a ton of legal/compliance and regulatory implications so it was a lot of work related to that and not so much the new shiny thing. My role now is for a product that centers around a very niche consumer and not one I’m a part of. It’s a lot less stress, but not quite as interesting. It’s hard to come up with new ideas to make new enhancements to add to our roadmap. There’s always a trade off.

Do you find that it is more difficult to land a job when you are not familiar with the product? Do companies expect some familiarity with the product prior to joining? (I transitioned internally to product, so never had to apply for a pm role yet)

Oh, I've done both. It's great to work with products you care about and are invested in but this isn't always an option and sometimes you just have to earn a paycheck

Do you find that you are more likely to jump to different companies when it is a product that you don't really care?

I managed a mobile banking product for about 8 years. It was okay, I was a customer too so it was relatable work, but I felt bored and just tired of the same old red tape, reorgs, and lack of excitement. I just recently went to the Dept of Defense doing the same thing but way more interesting products.

The defense department?? That sounds super fun! Did you apply directly?

I’ve done both and I prefer to manager a product that I feel invested in, not as a user but something that is solving a problem that I can connect to.

How is everyone planning their family vacations? Specially looking for people with kids. I have 2 kids and a family vacation for 4 people for a week easily comes to a min of 5k -6k (flight, car, hotel, eating out every day, entertainment tickets) and if we end up taking 2-3 vacations per year, it costs about 15-20k. This feels like a lot, or is everyone spending this much?

My colleagues
Just to put some intro
I am 22 years after college experience and worked in consulting for 15 years and currently in industry for 7 years.
My long term goal is to go back to consulting more of a business advisor from a strategy perspective
Here is my question
Would MBA be any good for me especially looking at strategy side?
I don’t want to spend $200K and would probably go online MBA in a mid tier school. Are those any good?
Looking forward to your great input on this topic
