As a law student looking to go straight to in-house, how realistic is it to find a role starting for at least 100k? I am in Houston, Texas. Class 2026

It can be done but it won't be easy.

I also went to law school in Houston and continue to work downtown. Recommend having your school’s career resource center connect you with alumni who are in-house, and start networking directly with them. Going directly in-house is a narrow path but there are still plenty of opportunities, and if you don’t have any summers left, direct contacts may be your best bet.

What did you do prior to law school?

I don’t know any lawyers who make less than $100k, fwiw.

The majority of first year lawyers make less than 100k their first year.

A lot of people graduate law school every year

I’m in-house in Houston. FWIW, the likelihood of my company hiring someone directly out of law school is zero. The same is true for our industry peers. And offering to work for only $100k probably isn’t going to change any minds.

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. Hi! So i've been doing "all the things i was supposed too" since i graduated. I have two masters dgs, my admin cert, 15 years teaching, and all that good stuff. The problem is that I don't want to do it anymore. I think of becoming an admin and I cringe. I have a photo business that I have been doing part time for yrs and it's becoming just as lucrative as teaching, with so much less stress. A part of me wants to just quit and do that full-time am I wasting all that education? Thoughts? do it?

Considering a move in-house to NBC Universal in any litigation role (though I’d really go to wherever there is a need, whether litigation or business affairs generally). Coming from 4th year law firm litigation experience in a variety of areas but mostly data breach, e-discovery, breach of K. Do I apply with an employee referral or via LinkedIn recruiter that reached out? Alternatively, if anyone has experience applying/at NBCU, I’d so appreciate general advice :) TIA.
