A director role isn’t to answer the brief but define the right brief.
This is helpful. How does one convey this in how they respond to questions or when speaking on their experiences?
Do people still hire senior planners to director level roles any more?? Back in the day I could see that happening, but now a senior planner is more or less a junior level position at most agencies (2-3 years experience).
I feel like I would never consider a senior planner for a director level role. They’d at least need to be an associate director and even then I am not too keen hiring someone to a promotion for a director role given I would expect that person to run the business and work pretty autonomous / require little oversight from a manager / me.
Same here senior strategist 1.
What do you mean by ‘I struggle with coming across very senior’? Is it lack of experience, lack of managing juniors/mentoring or is it more so the way you carry yourself? I think all can be solved but some more easily than others. I think a big part of senior to director is having to make tough decisions, step away from being everyone’s friend and be a mentor or senior person people look up to at the agency.
Yeah. I think I struggle with flowing naturally between the two and not just being in one “mode”. I think I also struggle with how much detail to include in what I share. Strategy can be so granular but senior folks tend to speak big picture/high level so it can be frustrating for me to find a balance. Framing my responses in a high level way but also speaking in detail enough so they know what I’m talking about.
Create a website of your work. Your interview will be fine, I’m sure. But seeing what you do and not simply hearing how you talk about it can be quite compelling.
Good. Send ahead. They may not see it. So send after, too. Good luck. I hope you get it.
