Have you had a screening with a recruiter already? Usually that is where I'd give my expected range prior to starting the interview process.
One thing to add - I do have a 2 months notice period, obviously very high for an entry level role: the recruiter did say they'd be willing to wait for the right candidate, but should that make me cautious about saying over the range in the interview?
You should negotiate when you get an offer! They won’t rescind the offer just because you try to negotiate.. when I took my current job back in early 2022, I was able to get 4% above their targeted budget..
Yeah I'm only gonna be aiming for 5-10% more, maybe suggest 10% so they meet me halfway at 5%?
No it’s not unfair to ask for this at all, you have 8 months of experience, which should at least validate the risk for any hiring manager that there is very little risk in hiring you because if you were not good enough at another entry level role then your current place would have most probably let you go, ask for 10% to keep the possibility of agreeing to 5% if they counter with that, if you don’t ask for 10% more you will never know if they would have given it or not. Do this after your interviews with the team, not prior, otherwise they might just weed you out because of cost. Good luck.
