At the very end of the day today, the partner I work for reviewed an assignment I prepared and basically told me it had to be completely reworked (it’s due early tomorrow by the way). His comments made no sense to me so I had to ask questions so that I understood the issues that apparently I didn’t understand the first time around based on his revisions. He got so fed up with me he hung up on me saying he’d do it himself. No question for the bowl. I just hate this job.

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.

How many dispositive motions is a lot to write in a month? I’m a first year and I’ve done three MSJs and two MTDs (including a complex 50 page one) and I feel absolutely drained. That normal?

Is there such place as non toxic ID firm? Or does any of ID attys like what they do? I moved from general practice to an ID firm six months ago. Biggest mistake of my life. We calendar court deadlines and internal deadlines. Why do associates disregard internal deadlines?

I’m getting great experience, several big newsworthy cases, lots of depositions, lots of legal writing...

And I absolutely hate it. The hours are miserable. I just want a 9-5. My ambition has been sapped away.

What are some good professional goals to set in your first five years of practice? For context, commercial lit associate at boutique firm, so lots of opportunity for hands on experience. Just want some ideas of what I should be thinking about and aiming for. Thanks!
