From my experience mid year promotions are for rare situations typically involving high performers and usually people who can’t pass the cpa in the 4-5 years before they are up for manager are usually not high performers
In my experience (because I’m actually getting promoted mid year this year) if there’s a need then yes, potentially high performers will get promoted mid year, but it’s meant for those who started mid year and reach their 3 year/X year mark at mid year. I have also heard of a senior moving to manager mid year in my practice but he was a very very high performer, selling a lot of work and we needed managers in our market in his practice
We have been hiring a lot of January folks lately and just last year was our office’s first round of standardized January promotions. My understanding is it is effected as an out-of-cycle raise but in terms of class, the January hires are grouped with the folks hired after them in July/August so they will probably have to be here 5.5 years to make manager. Typical promos for us are effective 7/1.
ETA: These promos were for associates being promoted to senior. I didn’t hear of any seniors moving to manager in the January window.
Uncommon. It only happens when there is a desperate need.
Uncommon but doable if you’re a high performer or if you’re only being held back from supervisor bc of CPA and you pass CPA around that timeframe
Need + high performer but even then it's not a guarantee. Why pay someone more for work they are likely already doing?
