Faced this weird behaviour from Optum recently. Gave interview for Data Scientist position. HR said feedback is positive. Asked for documents. It's been month now since I have shared the documents. I have no update on the offer. Today I called HR, she called me back saying the position is on hold due to recalibration in team, She has shared interview feedbacks to other teams and will get back to me in couple of days. I am clueless now. My last working day is approaching (In a month). Any Help??

Speedmaster Pro: $5500
I bought it for myself after finishing my MBA. I’m out of debt and make triple now what I did back then, but I’m always going to have the sentimental value of what my speedmaster means to me. Probably wasn’t the smartest purchase I made at the time, but I’m glad I did

I started in this hobby a bit later. First luxury piece was a Panerai, spent around $5500. Buying luxury watches is not an investment (unless you are talking about rare pieces), it’s an expensive hobby that brings smiles to our faces.

Well said, my first piece was also a Panerai

Bought a Datejust from money I made through a startup/side hustle. Quite justifiable due to value retention - basically parked cash.
@PwC 2 - Agree, but in terms of TCO probably cheaper than most luxury items. Also very few financial obligations at 21, zero student debt (thank you Germany)
@Associate 1 - Nope, OW isn’t exactly 9-5 🥲

Rolex sub date $9750, paid 50% other 50% parents gifted as I wanted a watch as grad gift
My numbers definitely don’t justify the watch, but I’d been saving/investing that money for about 2 years and currently don’t have much recurring expenses so I figured now would be the best time.

I’m definitely great full. I wasn’t expecting it, I bought the watch not expecting it then found out.

First clarifying question, what do you define as luxury? And how much would you be looking to spend. Be forewarned 2020-2021 have had production cuts for a lot of companies so getting a piece this year may be tough. If it’s a steel watch, specifically a Rolex, Patek, AP, select omegas, and some JLC models you will be waiting between a moderate to looong time unless you’re buying in the market.
i think it comes down to what people themselves consider as luxury! i’m not planning to impose a standard just bc i myself don’t consider it as such
and i’m thinking around 5-10k

Rolex submariner 116610LN
But it took a lot of saving for and just had great timing when it came to actually buying it.
Thank you! Yeah things just lined up for me.
I too thought that I could wear the sub date for essentially forever as my one watch but I was quickly proven to be wrong as I’ve been searching and saving for the second watch ever since I walked out the AD with the sub on my wrist Haha.

Very cool story and it’ll be a fantastic watch to pass down!
Went I started my new job making 140k. I actually was shopping for an El Primero (ballpark like $7200ish? I got a decent discount on it maybe 10-20%) for my dad for Xmas and I don’t remember why but I called the place I ordered from and while I was on the phone also ordered a Seamaster ($3800ish? I got a 25% discount bc I just bought the El Primero) for myself. My net worth is still very much negative from student loans. Probably like net -$40k
Also watches are definitely not investments unless you are a select group of very wealthy and very lucky people
Comp probably around 100k - Rolex 116613 LN (Two tone sub blue face). Net worth negative at the time.
She can keep the Daytona - RG version is more of a girl’s watch anyway. I’ve also requested the YG Daytona with green face, mostly because it’s collectible but sort of cool in a very “Rolex colours” kinda way. Besides she’s pestering me for a Patek 4947. She’s due in Dec so could be a good push present 😂

Started with a second hand almost vintage Seamaster.
Took me about 1.5 years to get my stainless steel seadweller with my AD.

First “luxury” watch purchase in my mind were micro brands for ~2K but the first watch that falls in your category was a Grand Seiko high beat for ~6500
