An accounting degree and CPA will help make sure that you can always get a job, even if you don’t like the job.
The better than average job security is something I don’t regret
All I care about is having a career that’ll allow me to achieve my financial goals. Namely, have a nice house, be able to retire without having to depend on the government, provide for my family, vacation in new exciting places. A CPA and a career in accounting gives me that.
Work is work. I mostly look for real meaning elsewhere in my life.
I’m glad to have experience of B4 and the corporate culture. I also did less than a year in industry. These experiences have made me realize that I no longer want to be doing accounting/auditing for the rest of my life so now I’m in the process of going back to school for a career change.
I moved in to a fp&a / finance role and actually enjoy my job now. Have some hope that even if you do end up disliking the work, the knowledge will still be useful.
Assurance manager -> TAS -> fp&a. Learned some skills on the side as well that I think helped

Kind of wish I had gotten into finance as I didn’t know much about IB in school. But I think I’m too old to work those hours at this point and I know I can still make a boat load of money here.
