They could find out, sure. That’s a risk you’ll be taking. Company policies will govern whether or not it’s an issue. Keep in mind, such policies often cover both company type and work type. Also keep in mind that future background checks will show overlapping employment so you may have to explain that….
Fascinated with this idea. Very George Costanza-like. The conflict could become even greater should you be billable - in professional service.
You’ll have to go “Downtown” to find the answer to this
Well most companies are not going to allow or take kindly to moonlighting. If you work in a regulated industry like public accounting for instance (possibly pharma or industries that require licensure) they do random independence audits and dual employment would come to light and would be a policy violation or worse
If you’re worried and you wouldn’t be comfortable with full transparency, you already know it’s wrong.
This happened at my company and we fired the person for cause
She presented at orals for another company while she was our employee and someone told us
It's always possible they could find out. In instances of dual employment it's important to understand what each company's conflict of interest and/or multiple employment policy is. Conflict isn't just same industry/competitor. It can also occur if one company is the customer of another or if one job interferes with your ability to do the other (i.e. causes you to be late/leave early, causes you to miss deadlines, causes a decline in quality of work, etc.).
If one company does a background check on you they’ll likely reach out to the other company you work for to verify your employment, which could set off some awkward conversations. As someone else said, it depends on both companies’ policies as to whether that would be an issue.
How many hours are you working for the second company? If it’s part time then perhaps you can be hired as a 1099 consultant.
