While earlier comments about TO are not incorrect, the office culture is terrific, there is a lot of local work, the food in the city is AMAZING, the city is very diverse and exciting. As a BCG Pl you live very well
Toronto is awesome. You do get paid less but it’s a lifestyle change. Accesible healthcare, a government that believes in science, you won’t get shot in schools, people are very nice, immigrants are welcome, schools aren’t 50k a year, etc
Toronto has a higher cost of living than those cities you cited...Canada BCG Pay is in Canadian dollars, at PL level it’s less than US BCG when converted
You’d be taking Home less disposable money
Trade offs are living in canada with different culture , no trump, more hockey....depends what you want in life
The Toronto office is really nice and great location
Toronto office is awesome and Toronto as a city is amazing. Canadians are really nice.
Why are you considering leaving McK for BCG?
Traffic un ATL is never light, never.
Why are you considering moving to all these different cities with no major ties to them?
Anecdotally (as told my my friends in BCG Dallas), the Dallas office is one of the worst BCG offices in the US. No WLB.
Having lived in Dallas and Atlanta they're very similar.
I like the culture and lifestyle more in Dallas. It just depends what you are seeking. Cost of living is about equal.
The traffic in Atlanta is soul crushing. That alone ruins a lot, IMO.
Honestly, I didn't get the southern vibes from the Atlanta office. I found the culture to be pretty well balanced both liberally and conservatively. I just worked out of the office for the past four weeks, I'm originally from the Chicago office.
On that note, consider the Chicago office! Tier-1 City with Tier-2 cost of living.
Traffic in Atlanta varies from light to insane depending on the time and where you live. If you're single and living in the city traffic is not an issue whatsoever, especially if you're traveling Monday through Thursday. The further away from downtown you live and the more you are a slave to a daily commute and obligations with schools/kids, the worse things get trafficwise
Nonsense saying traffic is light in ATL... There's one highway that goes North/South and everyone is on it. Just because you went downtown once and it took you 20 minutes means nothing. I lived there 8 years you went DT once, cool. Atlanta sucks.
OP, if you are serious about BCG Toronto, drop a burner. I am a senior P there and will be glad to talk.
BCG2 - are you still open to chat about Toronto opportunities?
Thanks for so many responses, all! I’m considering those locations as they’re where work in my sector is concentrated. I’m actually a relatively recent McK alum considering a return to consulting and looking at BCG as I’ve found their work in my sector really interesting and some people I’d enjoyed working with at McK have since left the firm (one to join BCG).
Dallas is a fun office, plus no state taxes so your take-home is higher. But I concur that wlb is not good. That’s true across much of the south, though
PS traffic in Atlanta is SO DAMN LIGHT compared to NYC, Chicago, and Boston. Not sure what the complaint is about but I heard it from all my Uber drivers too... It took me 20 mins to get to downtown during peak rush hours. In any of the other cities, it'd take 2+ hours regularly.
Protiviti 1, I live in Atlanta. I said it can be insane but if OP is a single person living in town, he or she will not be constantly on 75/85 during rush hour.
Why doesn’t everyone go to Miami offices? It’s Miami. Serious question lol
Dallas WLB isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, and comes with a host of benefits that aren’t as common in other offices. You do have to like Dallas as a city, though, it’s not to everyone’s taste. To earlier poster re: politics, it’s a liberal city and the office is certainly more liberal than Texas, but more Trump supporters than probably any other office.
