Strategy& fish - i’m currently recruiting for org strategy. Ive talked to associates (in the healthcare practice) and theyve mentioned that it doesnt matter whether youre in corp strategy, org strategy, etc and that you’re pretty much pooled by industry when it comes to staffing.
Can someone confirm this? Also, what do you expect the restructuring to look like?

It’s inferior to BCG
It’s slightly worse than chase sapphire reserve.
I love the comments from the peanut gallery by D1 and S1 who likely have zero exposure or first hand knowledge. For what it’s worth, you work on the exact same strategy, architecture and enablement engagements (we do not do “implementation” in the sense of the system integrators) with a more technical slant. I’ve worked directly for multiple CxOs in my relatively short time here. If you are a deep tech and strategy consultant, it’s great! :)
I am interviewing with BCG Platinion in NYC. Currently a tech consultant. I’ve literally been in the process for the past 6mos or longer and there is probably a month or more remaining. I don’t really care as I’m not looking to leave and it takes minimal effort, but there’s clearly something wrong with their process. FYI.
I am wary that if offered a position it might be a Big 4 salary with MBB expectations.
SC1 if your quality of output is dependent on the firm where you work telling you what quality is then that is quite telling. There is a global standard for quality, and I don’t need B4 or MBB to inform me about it. They’re hiring me, so I can inform them about it.
I'm partnered with them on a current project. Team is a mixed bag, some good some not so good. Their hours seems reasonable (830-6). All travel (m-th). Outputs are less than stellar, but maybe I have high expectations.
B4-ish salary, BCG expectations, BCG quality, BCG benefits (health, bonuses, perks), slightly less hours.
Basically bcg implementation
Not on same level as the IT strategy groups from bcg or mckinsey
OP, the fact that you focused on hours worked rather than quality of output when it comes to expectations is quite telling...good luck but might want to stay at Big 4
Reputation outside the company is good - internally you'll feel treated secondary compared to strategy group (training events, learning opportunities, recent comp raises). Expectations, benefits etc. are same as strategy.
What's BCG Platinion? Also, can you imagine making this post unironically thinking we would focus on the first sentence?
Apparently I imagined it.
Yah I’m just not sure there is much more expectation wise anywhere than in a Big 4. We already work 8 to 1030pm on projects and have to travel everywhere. Plus they aren’t all C level clients nor does the entire b4 consist of strategy projects. At least on tech projects, b4 technologists pulls insane hours a lot of times since they have to work with offshore teams.
There are only 24 hours in a day. What else could bcgp expect?
Their bonus, healthcare, and pension programs are much stronger than the b4 ones. The projects seem cooler too.
C1, has nothing to do with what you just said. The point is not everyone can meet the quality expectations of MBB
I don’t know. I think about it and they are consistently on strategy projects vs big 4 where it is luck of the draw unless in s& or s&o. IT consultants aren’t really used on strategy projects too often at B4.
There wasn’t a place in BCG to have work life balance or implement between the two worlds, and P provides a bit more balance. The benefits are top notch and this way one can transition from IT consulting to strategy slowly instead of jumping in and failing. At B4 many of the implementations fail or aren’t done well, so that coin toss is expected.
I think it isn’t too bad. I know everyone is joking that they’re inferior, but I rarely see strategy people who can implement anything. Maybe they are just bitter they have no work life balance. At B4 firms people look down their noses at tech too.
The T&A part of BCG has an overlapping skill set, but they don’t do as well without P. The domain knowledge doesn’t come without expert experience, so much of their recommendations are speculative.
The perspective on P is all wrong. It’s like McKinsey implementations, and T&A is all the more robust because of it. Definitely a step up from the B4.
Well I need more balance in life, so i will take the $ cut for some me time. I don’t mind the quality and expectations high as long as the hours cut back and are b4 hours.
At BCG Platinion our work varies. You will get a balance of strategy and implementation work.. If you can pivot between both you are golden.
