NYC
Great schools, universal pre-K, good public transit, plenty of parks and activities, every single like-minded community you could think of.
Expensive, sure. But if you’re willing to get out of Manhattan (or go all the way North) there’s plenty of liveable neighborhoods.
NYC is a great place to raise kids….if you’re rich or willing to live like a broke college student crammed in a one bedroom,….universal 3-K is not a guarantee or a guaranteed fit for instance you may not get childcare placement in your neighborhood so you may wind up with two commutes
If you’re coming from nyc, the natural answer is Chicago.
Livable, affordable, centrally located, good variety of agency and in house work opportunities, and if you did time in NYC you will be at a career advantage.
It’s also not located in a red state, or a place poised to be imminently decimated by climate change.
Anywhere in Europe.

If you're open to moving outside the US, I'd recommend Dubai
Pro
Definitely not Toronto. 💀
Vancouver ad scene is super small, and the cost of living is arguably worse than Toronto.
Depends on how much money you have
Personally, I’d say Bay Area / LA / San Diego / Dallas / Austin / Miami (mostly for the weather), as long as you can afford good schools / good child care
La Jolla for sure, if you can afford it.
Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs. Wonderful public schools with lots of options. Very few people pay private schools when the public ones are so good. So many outdoor activities and lakes to enjoy year round, strong community commitment to arts, theatre and culture. Well educated population. Great ad community with lots of fortune 500 companies.
Austin, TX realistically but I’d never live in Austin, TX.
Ann Arbor MI. Lots of activities, good schools, decent COL. only problem with the AA school system is it’s flooded with professors kids so good luck being in the top of your class to get into U of M even if you are smart
Where do you work?
NYC baby!
Yes!!
No Chicago?
Ok. Beyond nyc, can you name another city in the US that has more opportunity for advertising specifically?
Those statements tend to be at odds with each other, assuming you mean large metros wherein there are large agency networks. Affordability gets tough once you factor in all required to raise a family.
That one that was built on rock ‘n roll. Or Portland.
Portland fucking rules but yeah to WK1’s point this is a very real downside.
Salt Lake City
Atlanta lol
Atlanta
Not expensive like La or nyc
Not cold like Chicago but same price, maybe cheaper
Solid schools, solid youth sports, great metro area
I’d say LA. I’m in S.F. and the market isn’t great for agency work opps. Just went client side for the first time in 20 years…but I was actively looking and LA had some interesting opportunities. If I didn’t get this client role, I probably would have moved to LA.
St. Louis, MO or Kansas City, KS.
