I also have a VentureX for the Capital One Lounges but most of my purchases go on CSR since much better rewards
Chief
It’s the CSR (combined with Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited). Amex Plat and VentureX are arguably “better” cards, but that’s due to perks/credits and not rewards on spend.
Amex Gold is another competitor at a lower annual fee (plus you may get $100 off if you have a corporate Amex)
This. Although I’ve considered avoiding the CFF, in favor of just buying Visa/MC/AX GC’s at drugstores (3 points/$) or supermarkets (limited time 5 points/$), or optimally rotating category merchants (5 points/$) on the CFF for non-category spend. Don’t yet know if that plan would work but it would lighten my wallet at least (and better returns to boot)
Mixing with the Amex EDP or Gold might eke out slightly better points return, but personally I’m less impressed with MR than UR—no 50% CSR bonus on portal travel spend or Pay Yourself Back (which only gets you .6 cpp vs 1.5 with UR on the CSR), SkyPesos aren’t worth it compared to WN/UA points, etc. I have, however, considered getting the Plat due to perks alone ($1,095 personal annual value vs $545 with corp AF credit).
No use for CapOne with those points in mind, although as you point out their lounges do look quite choice, esp compared to Priority Pass lounges.
All depends where your monthly spend is. Cards are tailored for travel, food, general spend, etc.
For anyone to be able to give you solid advice we’d need to know your general spend and what the rewards you’re interested in
