buy a house. You saved up 500k which is really good amount but you might just want to think about future plans too. Do you want to give away whole of this 500 and save nothing for future? or do you want to build up equity first and save up more and then jump to GC? to me 500 is huge amount and you should wisely plan your steps. Another point is - for EB5 even if they say 500 is good for GC, real story is - to turn that amount into profit and eventually into comfortable savings is a long road. Good luck.
You should def go the EB5 route. I say this because I was in the same spot a few years back contemplating this question and I chose a house. Let’s just say I made the wrong choice.
You need to research a bit about EB5, talk to regional centers, attorneys etc about its ROI, risks. This isn’t the best place for sound advice.
It’s important for you to know that EB-5 will not drain you of your 500k. You will get that money back along with a nominal interest percentage. So it is savings in the long run. It’s not as good as home equity but it is money swept aside for the future.
It’s ridiculous...
GC 😂👍
Gc.. nothing better than stability
Weird flex but I am assuming that you are smart enough not to spend all your savings on a GC!
This is not a flex! I can definitely see OPs thought process.
Case 1
OP buys a house, but some immigration crap happens and they have to exit US - Selling house takes a long time and isn’t that easy, either they have to sell it for a premium or transfer the power of attorney to a close friend
Case 2
OP gets a GC! Now that they have stability, they can easily switch to high paying jobs or can do multiple jobs. The couple can easily save up another 500K in the next 5-6 years and then but a house.
My recommendation OP - go for GC!
I’d go back to India with half a mill
Just curious; how long did It take to reach this goal?
To your question, I would buy house which you can resell easily (if you need to)
Awesome :) 👍
Go EB-5. But please do the due diligence. Comes with a lot of risk! Good luck
I don't think it a lot of money to go back to India. Essentially about 3.5cr. You'd maybe get an apartment in an avg society in Delhi or Mumbai. But that's about it. Why does everyone think it's a big enough amount to move back? Am I missing something?
40-50 Lac annual income is a very aggressive estimate.
Even if you have to go back to India that 500k saving will get you very far!
Can you buy a green card? How?
you cannot “but” a GC. You have to invest in govt projects and employ people to get that work done. It’s called investor visa.
The 30 year wait for GC is maddening and adds way too much unpredictability to our lives. Even if EB5 gets that down to 5 years or so, that is a huge improvement.
Why would it not be smart? You get the money back after a few years. You just don’t earn any interest on it.
Are the returns guaranteed? No, right! Exactly my point.
OP - you can split and get both.. I’m assuming you are planning to open a business for GC vs investing IN USCIS pre-approved projects.....
How will split work?
I did some reason on it a few months back I may have some insights. Be careful of the projects, returns promised and overheads. I mean, it doesn’t hurt to invest-you’ll make another $500k in 3-4 years tops
There have been a lot of cases where they did not get their invested money back
I would say buy a house with the money. Do something that gets you an EB1 and move ahead
Dude, Just get the EB-1. Go for it... the more suggestions you take, harder it’ll be to make a decision. You’ll make the same $ in 2-3 years if you continue in your job else start a business of your own with the GC
Do you mean EB-5? How do I get an EB-1?
Does anybody know what’s the EB5 green card processing time now for Indian citizens? A lawyer told me it’s 5 years + now.
According to latest bulletin it's 8.4 years if you apply today
