I'd say if your tax situation is relatively simple, Turbo Tax is fine. If you have anything complicated like side income, rental income, investments, etc., hire an accountant.
Use Cash App Taxes
Highly recommend Hasans episode on taxes (from Patriot Act)
Use FreeTaxUSA. Don't use turbotax. The platform has lobbied the Federal government to make doing your own taxes harder and the government complies because TurboTax refunds are smaller than those given by more comprehensive platforms. This is especially true if you own a small business.
Turbo Tax almost always has hidden fees. Once they charged me $300 (didn’t know I would be charged this much until it was charged) to file, and the return wasn’t even valid. So, I couldn’t file my taxes, and they wouldn’t refund. I highly recommend FreeTaxUSA to everyone I know. You generally only have to pay (like $20) to file state taxes.
H&R Block is free!
Love turbo tax.
Absolutely, especially if your tax situation simple. I have used TurboTax for years and it has never led me wrong. Yes, you’ll pay fees, but “free” does not automatically make things better, and it can come back to bite you if you don’t do it correctly. When my tax situation was complicated, I used a CPA and if YOU have a complicated tax situation, then you should use a CPA.
I’ve been using FreeTax USA for the past 3 years. Not a single problem. It truly is 100% free for FEDERAL. I think around $15 for State.
1040.com worked for me all this time.
