With social security potentially running out, why couldn’t it be an option for the govt to put $5k for every baby that is born in a year into an account Invested in a govt share class S&P 500 fund. Historical average is 10%+, which would provide roughly $2.7 million for a baby born today. Eventually, this would eliminate the need for soc sec tax, and would only cost $18 Billion a year instead of several trillion a year being deposited into the trust.

At what point do you stop splitting rent/bills 50/50 with your fiance? She makes 75 and I make 125, we don’t live a wild lifestyle so we could both individually afford 100% of our rent/bills, but I have student loans and she doesn’t. I’m thinking of keeping everything 50/50 until we get married or unless she asks - is that fair?

I went from making $70k the last 7 years to now started a new job a month ago making $130k plus $10k bonus every year, and $60k in RSUs. I have $70k in my 401k and around $50k in savings. Want to get out of the Silicon Valley which has been home my whole life and buy in TX or AZ a ~$400k house. I have about $20k in student loans which my dad has offered to pay (wants to make up for never supporting me) but I’m waiting to see what Biden decides for student loans. Is this feasible? Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.

Question about solo/self-employed 401ks: If I create a sole-member LLC for a side business and create a solo/self-employed 401k, am I only allowed to make contributions from the earnings earned via the LLC? Or am I allowed to contribute money earned from a different source (ie W-2 job).

Can I receive rent on H1? How can that be accounted towards the end of the FY?

I am not from the US and taxes overwhelm me; the first few years I did them with TurboTax and it was fine but then I entered a domestic partnership and had a baby. I also bought a house (that I don’t live in), so I went to H&R Block to give it a try assuming they could advise me on optimizing my return, it seemed that they are completely transactional as the person is just typing numbers in a form. Any recommendations on how to navigate personal taxes with an actual advisor?

I have significant equity in a property (300k+) and maybe another 200k across other properties. I have a decent amount of money in cash and already 200k or so in stocks. Would you consider pulling money through cash out refi and using it? I get nervous for stocks being so high. I have a few properties in pipeline already. How would you suggest using it (if at all).
