Thoughts on working at Whirlpool in a operations and strategy analytics role? Mgr and role look good. But something I can’t put my finger on. Maybe it feels like a prestige or brand downgrade from D?

Prestige is overrated, if you like the job take it

like

Most certainly is, but honestly the biggest set back for me thinking on going back to industry would be the non-flexibility of working from anywhere. Or just in general the idea of not being able to go to any client and basically suggest any idea and see if from beginning to end. But the position you’re looking seems pretty strategic and forward looking, but again you wouldn’t be able to move to another different type of business. Pros and Cons. Good luck!

like

Good company and ability to move up quickly due to lack of talent because HQ is in middle of no where

likefunny

How can you move up though if you’re remote? Don’t think this is a good move unless you’re looking to chill. I had a friend who worked there out of UG in brand marketing and hated it. The talent isn’t strong and Benton Harbor is so boring

like

Educational pedigree. It’s not easy to convince people from top MBAs or UGs to stay at in Benton Harbor

like

True. I think that’s why they’re hiring remote executives. I wish I knew how to get the interviewer to speak to that in an interview without coming off as a coastal elitist haha

funny

Ummm noooo....like Def a prestige downgrade

like

You bet your ass I wouldn’t live there. Only reason I’m talking to them is bc the recruiter promised remote positioning. Were that to change I’d back out. No way.

like

I simply read the original post. Regardless, do you want to work on an island?

like

And I can’t tell the guy that without sounding like a snob. “There’s no way any of you country bumpkins are smart."

funny

Well actually the role may be remote the recruiter told me. I wouldn’t be considering it otherwise haha.

So considering that flexibility, I am trying to think of other downsides.

Re your first question I plan to ask that and will listen critically to the responses I get.
Depending on your definition of “chill” I may be. I have some things I want to do that take longer than a year. I can’t do that on a project. An industry role would allow that. I may boomerang. But you are right I don’t want this to be a downgrade. If I wanted to work at a Facebook or google one day will I be able to make an impact on this role that will help me out with that? I will have to make sure of that too.
I’d love to find a way to evaluate how strong their talent is. Do you mean educational pedigree or they don’t have he headcount or what?

Ugh okay damn. I really liked the role and working from any city I wanted would be amazing. Sounds like I’d be judged by my network for taking it. Better stay away.

Do you want to live in the middle of no where Michigan?

If you’ll read above d1 as I’ve said the role is remote. Do you not read before commenting?

That’s what I’m trying to figure out. What kind of island are you envisioning? An intellectual one where they’ve only been able to cultivate crap talent bc of their location (only recently started remotely staffing key roles)? Physical island bc my team will be remote? I do most of my work remotely now. Fly in to meet the project team monthly for a week. So I’m fine with virtual interaction. In fact I think we all should be comfortable with working in different proximities. Part of the “future of work.” The former, that intellectual island, is what concerns me.

Personally I would not do it. I'd get bored. Crap talent, saying this as someone who got an offer from them and turned it down tho I would have been moving.

Tell me more about the crap talent. How was it crappy? How crappy was it? How did that affect the company? Your role? Anything else! I want to ask lots of questions about this.

Mainly so I can convince myself to turn it down.

If the talent is crap and you’re managing it remote, itll even be harder. Picture daily standup calls because your team isn’t reliable, lots of email tracking because you can’t just walk tot heir desk, and overall lack of accountability. You’ll be a micro manager and that sucks

I don’t mind daily stand ups. Have managed remote teams for years. It’s the intellectual capability, drive of the team and the vision of leadership that is a red flag. Can’t imagine they have cultivated the best of the best when being in BFE for so long

Hi all,

Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both

Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.

Thanks!

Six months ago a financial conglomerate offered me a position. The pay and benefits were really good so I took it. Now, I’ve realised this company is dangerously toxic so I deeply regret leaving the firm.

Past week my former manager asked me if I would have any interest in coming back so I said yes. Then she said she would have some conversations to test if it’s alright to bring me back in.

So, a recruiter sent me a HackerRank assessment and I went to complete it and it was so easy? Is this a red flag or a shit test or something? Like there was a number sequence: “1234567”, and it corresponded to a word: “Surgeon”. Then it was the word: “Snore”, which corresponded to “36425”. and then I had to figure out the number that corresponded to: “Rogue”. It just seemed too easy, why even have it besides creating another barrier to a possible offer? Should I tread carefully here?
