The 787 is nice for long hauls because the design of the airframe makes it less susceptible to corrosion from moisture so it can be kept at a higher humidity level in the cabin I find it to be noticeably more comfortable, especially when trying to sleep
Pick the one that offers you a better class seat
I’m not a Dreamliner fan. Especially in first/business. It feels quite cramped due to the curvature of the ceiling and the large ohbs
787 will likely have stuff that works and huge overhead bins so less likely to run out of space for the later groups assuming you don’t have status

How long is your flight?
I would think the 78 would complete the same flight in less time. Case in point ORD-DFW takes 2h in a 788. A 738 takes 2:41h to fly the same route
SC1 - actual cruise speeds are quite similar and while the 787 is faster, it's not that much faster.
Good point M4. I was going by scheduled flight times and AA does tend to overestimate their flight times so the difference may not be that substantial
