Boss characterizes all tasks as “PRIORITY” (full emphasis). There is no distinction on the level of “priority” on tasks. If we start on a task that was placed as a priority (which clearly means a priority above the others), boss complains/yells the task before was the priority or swaps back and forth on which one is truly a priority. Boss wants everything done in “1 hour” or “1 day” including boxes of discovery (1 man team). High levels of stress! Are these expectations unreal or is it just me?

The expectations are unreal and I would highly recommend that you switch firms as soon as possible as this is only going to worsen your mental health.

Facts I would get this often where given tasks at 4:30 and I had to leave at 5:30pm and then when I spent overtime on it HR became upset. Jump ship because they are narcissistic and don’t know what they are doing. Since there was a strict deadline. They couldn’t fathom that a 69,000 documents of production means overtime if you want to get it out. I expressed how it could not get done in one day and I was ignored by the attorney. Then he got mad because I billed for my time.

In the end I was forced out the firm because management didn’t even know what I did on a day to day basis and the attorney lacked knowledge and was narcissistic.

Leave unrealistic expectations trust me your mental health will suffer in the long run

Sounds like you work for a lawyer. And yes, its unreasonable.

Yeah, this one's easy. Run.

I worked for an attorney like this for 3 years. Tanked my mental health. He’s now on his 4th firm after being pushed out of three in a row.

It will not get better. Start looking.

I’ve been a paralegal for about 30 years in private law firmS. As I get older, I feel like it’s time for a semi-career change. Either an office manager position or perhaps a corporate position where I can travel a little since my kids are grown and I’m an empty-nester. Has anyone made this type of transition? Advise welcome. My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

How much do you make and how many years experience? I’m a senior para at a mid sized firm in Central FL. 10 years experience. I’m making $64k—fair salary?
