Can anyone explain the benefits of applying for the Candidate Membership for a CFA Society (i.e. pros, cons, dues, etc.)? I am a Level III candidate looking to make a pivot in my career in financial services, so I was curious how beneficial the Candidate Membership is for anyone that is currently a member. Thanks!

Unless I’m misreading your question, membership to the National CFA institute society, as well as membership to your local chapter, wasn’t optional. If you want to be an active charter holder, you have to join and pay dues.

That said, pre-Covid those societies held tons of events with key industry leaders and speaker so it was great for networking. Hoping this ramps up again post-COVID

My friend and I took CFA level 1 together. I passed she didn’t. She got frustrated and joined as a member instead. She said people confuse the two and think she’s a CFA charter holder even though she’s not and she said that they have a lot of events that she can attend. I understood this to be the primary benefit. I didn’t end up joining, I’m just finishing the CFA program instead.

Join the local society and attend events abs network.

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?
