I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Also consider commute. Chicago has less traffic and much better developed public transit than LA.
Cost if living in LA is gonna be way more so while ur earning 30k more, that'll go quick in expenses, don't you think?
As someone who has lived in Florida and LA. Pick LA. LA is the better version of Florida. Chicago is cold.
I’ll take chicago all day. Most of my money will come to me! But you from Florida you probably love your no snow weather! But then there’s wild fire hurricane and earthquake. Pick your poison lol
This is fun!
LA - year round weather, access to beaches/outdoors, but housing costs + COL are extreme and commute times even at 50% remote is going to be so many hours wasted per week/year sitting in your car. Better for the outdoorsy person - if you can live with the travel times. Higher state income taxes too - 9.35% on that 30k differential, vs 4.95%
Chicago - bitterly cold winter (though a real 4 seasons), access to lake, better housing costs and public transport. I like a compact downtown and nightlife.
Personally, if I could get a good place with a 30 min or less direct subway commute from home-work, Chicago would be my preferred option.
100% remote, at around those comp options, I'd get out of both and move to tier 2 size city lol.
Any other enticing factors for either? I agree though, based on just comp alone, LA is insanely expensive.
Hmmm, I also live in Florida (don't like it) but weight the pros & cons and see if you can talk to other folks that live in either city, get some insight. Good Luck!
What is the base salary ?
Yeah, roles are PM in Chicago (I asked to lower the bonus and raise the base which is why the bonus is low) and then Solutions architect in LA (155k base + 35k annual bonus)
Chicago as long as you don’t need the LA weather
Chicago.
