Makes sense. Partner and associate side are very different. On partner side you want a recruiter who can gauge fit and make sure nobody is wasting their time since there is so much nuance at that level. On the associate side, a recruiter adds value to candidates in lots of ways, but the main way there's value add to firms is if a recruiter is sending them candidates better than the others they have. Sometimes there's a unique role where a recruiter knows better than the market who will fit, but generally firms just want the best person and recruiters sending bottom feeder candidates are wasting their time. Certainly 90-95% of recruiters don't meet these basic expectations. Tho I would say NY is a bit different than secondary markets since you'll have lots of folks who know nothing about your market trying their hand since their large recruiting firm won't let them operate in other markets
