Can I counter a bad offer after I've already accepted it? I was so desperate for a job that I didn't stop to consider the salary, but after some reflection, I've come to my senses.

Yes you can, but:
1) it is very possible they do not accept and this tarnishes the relationship
2) it is possible they do not accpet and this tarnishes the relationship
3) they accept, but they did not like that you came back after signing the document

Be prepared to walk away if they do not accept the proposal.

Personally, if you need the job, then I dont think this is a good idea.

I mean I guess you could bring up the topic. However be prepared for things to go very bad very quickly. I would take this job for now and just keep looking for something that pays better.

Don’t do this if you can’t risk losing the job. Need to negotiate before you accept

Technically yes, but if you are truly that desperate for the job, I wouldn’t do it after you’ve already accepted. The window for acceptable negotiation is passed. Try to figure out how to move ahead in the company or keep looking.

It’s unlikely at this point if you’ve accepted an offer

If you accepted it you accepted it.

I wouldn't recommend countering at this point. However, if the recruiter or hiring manager asks you again if the salary meets your expectations, you could say: "I was delighted to receive the offer! My walkaway rate is x, but I would love to make X" so long as your walkaway rate (the lowest amount you can accept without needing another job) is lower than the offered salary.

If the salary is below your walkaway rate, I wouldn't recommend negotiating because the company may be suspicious as to why you accepted the offer before this interaction. However, you might ask how you could grow in this role and potentially earn more. If that's not possible, start looking for another job, but keep this one while you're looking because it's easier to get a job when you have a job. I hope that helps!!

Hi all,

After the final interview, HR reached out and said they would like to extend an offer. HR gave a ball park of 135k - 145k base with about 15k in sign-on equity and 20k annual bonus.

After a couple of days, HR person came back with with 125k base and 20k annual bonus. No sign-on equity anymore. What should I do given that these numbers seem way lower than the initial range provided? HR claimed it’s because of “market conditions”.
