OP: Which industry or area of work would you be working in?
Unsure. I’m just thinking of applying as I know a recruiter.
Its not great right now but there has been effort to change that throughout last year. Is it actually working, now thats a different question
What have been the efforts?
Following. Legacy booz was pretty much a big 3, very uptight, suit and tie culture, partners checked the brands of your clothes, strict up or out. But ive heard things have significantly relaxes but they are more like Deliotte S&O or EY OTS than a big 3 now.
Firmwide efforts addressing all facets of the business, including recruiting, career progression, staffing on projects, and more. Task force made up of actual employees at all levels, volunteers. Its a work in progress but we made great stride in the past year or so. Poll current S& employees and you will be hard pressed to find too many people who dispute that the firm is in so much better place today than two yreas ago
Culture varies by industey vertical and team, but overall its collaborative and more tight knit than what you would find at bigger professional services firms. Ive also found that great majority of senior folks ive worked with care a great deal about ensuring work life balance and career development et al. Having said that it is still a consulting shop...

2 legacy culture features I enjoyed, and is still prevalent at Booz, is 1) not a huge focus on utilization for promotion and 2) a strong emphasis on mentorship. How do these two features stand at S& now?
There is a strong commitment from Strategy& leadership to invest more in improving our culture. It’s not perfect, but I’m happy here. I have noticed that it’s improving.
One other point is that each vertical has a sub culture. In FS we feel like our own separate small firm in many ways. You get to know everyone and don’t get lost the way you might think given the affiliation with PwC.
Blended teams are a joke. Pwc works from 9 to 5pm and we work from 9 to 3am to compensate for their hours. S& partners forget blended teams right after the sow is signed and pretend that the S& folks they staffed on the project will carry the baggage of rest of the team without any complaints. Hypocrisy at its best. Want to get the best of the worlds.. want to cut costs but quality should remain the same. Learn something from pwc who can grow their business without making their folks work insane hours.
