Can someone explain what happens when I'm put on a secure line? I was setting up some utilities the other day. Before giving my personal information, the rep tells me to hold on and wait till they switch over to a secure line. I'm definitely skeptical and feel like the only thing they did was just switch off phone recording. It doesn't sound as cool to say, "Let me turn off the recorder," but it would be a bit more honest if that's the case.

Some of my reps say this when they need to pause a recording to take payment, though now we do the majority of payments via secure IVR. I've always thought that was a very clunky line to say, but that kind of script helps them remember to turn off the recording.

A secure line just means the recording was stopped and a supervisor hopped on the agent's station. If you think it's dishonest to say it's a secure line, what exactly do you think secure means in relation to phones? A secure line means people are not recording the conversation or able to listen in, which is exactly what is being done.

Recording, including screen recording, stops. They’re also transferring you to an alternate line. It’s not just turning off a recorder. At least it wasn’t at my work.

Additional Posts in Customer Support

I grew up with a lot of social anxiety so I can't really believe I'm saying this, but my favorite thing about working at a store is that I have to talk to people every day. It's really helped me come "out of my shell" and stepping outside of my comfort zone has given me more confidence than I ever thought it would.
