Can someone help me reverse engineer a retirement plan? I need support as I am from a clinical health background and I see a lot of comments here with so much knowledge. I need some help in charting out a plan. I can do some VA work for someone in return for their help 🙏

Reverse engineer? I don't know what that means in this context.

What is your situation? What questions do you have? If you share information people here will be happy to offer informal advice for free.

Planning isn’t too hard. If you save 15% of your income and you have a “normal” career trajectory, you will probably be able to retire at a normal retirement age while maintaining your lifestyle.

If you want to retire early, you can pick a number that you want to live off of, and use that to calculate a rough number of how much you need to retire. Most follow the 4% rule. If you need 100k to live off of, then you need $2.5m to retire (100/0.04).

Thanks.

I am a Reliability Maintenance 3P contractor for Amazon. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering on June 2022. I’ve been working with Amazon for a year, but there’s a lack of prospective EE positions within the company. The job postings I see are either less or barely above my current salary. I’m not sure if staying longer is beneficial for my future career as an Electrical engineer. I plan on getting my FE license within the next 6 months. Any suggestions will be appreciated

Any dads out here? Wife is 20 weeks pregnant with our first and want to connect and know from fellow dads on how are they coping. How are you helping your partner? Feel I am not doing enough. Except for getting ready with the finances.

Pregnant moms, feel free to provide suggestions on what your partner is doing which you really appreciate. I got the foot massage part covered. 😉

When and how do you push back on people senior to you? Fifth year dealing with supersenior associate (11th year) who completely lacks good judgment & common sense. One of those super smart but impractical types. As just one example, he recently called me to tell me to call someone who’s on vacation and ask them to send a calendar invite. I offered to send myself but apparently that wouldn’t work (presumably because it would be efficient & make sense.) At what point (and how) do I Just Say No?

For the past 2-3 years, I have obsessively tracked my net worth/income trends/investment performance over time. I checked my trends just now, and OMG I hit the 300k net worth mark right around Christmas. I guess I haven’t looked at my dashboard for a month. This feels so cool. I want to shout it from the roof! I can’t really brag about this to my friends, so I’m sharing here! 🎉 🎉

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.
