Can we all weigh in (honestly) on ‘fashion recruiters’ and our experience with them. I’ve been in the industry for 15 years and it seems to be getting worse and worse: apply for or they reach out with jobs that have very little alignment with what the company’s job description is; they ask for portfolio changes or full on projects and then ghost you; and worst of all soft blacklist you if you don’t get the role or turn it down (i.e. the offered salary is way below even the published range).

What do you mean blacklisted? I’ve had really bad experiences with recruiters for the past 5 years and have experienced everything you wrote but never heard of this blacklisting? Please explain.

Recruiters keep a list of applicants that don’t get selected or turn down offers. They won’t work with those people ever again.

I feel the same way. I've been working with recruiters for almost 7 years and I haven't found one who sincerely works for both sides. it's always for the company first, not really focusing on my experiences or what I need. Of course, they reach out first and then they ghost me easily very well. And their offer salary often isn't match what they published too. It's getting more worst.

During the pandemic I lost my job and was desperate. I found a 5 month tax law internship to full hire and applied.
Description: “$20/hr to JDs, $15/hr to JD students”.
This was our convo.
Me: …I graduated from law school a few months ago…
Interviewer: so I’ll be paying you $15/hr if you’re hired… I’ll let you know in a week
Me (in no position to negotiate): umm… okay
*3 months later*
Interviewer: You’re hired! However it will now be an unpaid internship, are you still interested?
Me: *ghosts*

Had a first round interview scheduled for a large CPG brand. My interviewer never called me, and I emailed following up to confirm the call. It’s been over a day and no response. What is going on with recruiters? I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt, but not even an email back saying “something came up” or “we’ve moved on” ? I’ve been ghosted after every final interview during my recent job search, but never had I been ghosted before even having the first call??

I had a second round(which was a final round as well) of an interview couple of days back. But yet to receive any feedback on it. Normally how much time hr team takes for a revert? Waiting makes me feel anxious.
