a. Which part of india and US?
b. Will you complete the move before birth?
c. How long will the spouse be dependent in the US?
d. Do you eventually want to move to US?
Hyderabad (house loan paid) - Philadelphia
Yes
Spouse wants to take a break and wants to figure things out.
I am not sure about a permanent move but definitely long term is what I am thinking.
Only plus here is that your kid will get citizenship (if you consider that a plus) , 55LPA in hyd is plenty, 130-140K USD won't be much unless you change job, specifically if you are in New Jersey.
In India at 55 LPA you can live like kings and still save a lot for your kids' future. In the USA $130k will not get you anywhere especially when you have to start shelling out for daycare etc (this depends a lot on your COL but in general it'll be nowhere near the standard of living you'll have in India).
That being said, long term goals should be factored into this decision and not just current monetary state.
If you want to raise kids that become house representatives or senators, then decision to move to USA becomes a no-brainer.
EYP1, but we are comparing with 55 LPA in India. We are not arguing whether they can get by on $140k
If you make 140K in Philadelphia you will be comfortable and then if your spouse works you will be even more comfortable. And in New Jersey you will also be fine. There are rich parts and affordable parts.
Without location, this question is not going to get you helpful responses. $140k in Kansas is more than plenty but it will barely suffice a family of 3 in NEw York City.
Edison?
55 lpa in India for sure in my opinion irrespective of the location in the US.
India.
If Philly or suburbs of NJ near Philly, then I think it’s doable. Consider having the child in the US. You will arm them with a lot of advantages from birth. If spouse comes back to work in a few years thru F1 OPT or H4 EAD, then you stand to retire very comfortably.
I would lean US.
Full disclosure: I live in the suburbs of NJ but closer to NYC then Philly
Without doubt India
USA, no brainer.
