Considering a career pivot. Do you think Middle Market P&C or surety underwriting would be a smarter move, considering future demand for underwriters, work/life balance, and pay?

I'm following for the same input. Currently in SB with a background in MM and want to know thoughts also

like

Premiums will be higher and some red tape at the MM and large corporate level... but I vastly prefer that space in UW over small business and personal lines, and I've spent time in all

like

For some background.... started my career in personal lines and then small commercial at HIG. Went to TRV for small commercial, then XL Catlin for MLC, then a small specialty carrier focusing on MLC. My company now is MLC.

That said, yes, some company specific. There are MLC carriers that I didnt have great experiences interviewing with and that I felt, pwrsonally, weren't great fits for me (or them...and that included AXA and AIG, Starr, Chubb).....youve got to figure out what you want in a company and seek it out.

I’ve been depressed for years now and this past week I lost a dog I’ve had for 15 years; he was one of the only bright spots in my life and I’ve just found it so hard to focus or motivate myself on anything after this. I genuinely feel like I’m at rock bottom, Idk if I’m crazy to feel that way bc of a dog but I used to be able to control this and put up a front but now my depression and anxiety are starting to leak into my work conversations completely unintentionally, I wish this would stop :(

I want to leave my captive company. I don’t think I am ready to be totally on my own even with a cluster group etc. There is an option to be subcontractor in another independent company. I can write she said like 300 companies in many states, it would be helpful because I have many friends out of state. Is taking 25% of sales for giving CRM and companies too much? Seems like a lot. It is like “owning your book” but I assume I would pay a high price if I want to totally manage myself in a futu

currently tossing up between staying at a global company (who is in the process of some positive changes) with an amazing manager who supports my career and flexible working … however comes with the inherit issues that come with a long standing global company

compared with a role at a smaller mga, higher salary (around 30%) more , more visibility career wise and some great employee benefits , management seem to be supportive and low staff turnover

which would you choose here

I’ve been working for my State Farm agency as a team member for 2 years. I am licensed in property and casualty as well as life and health, but only make $13 an hour. My boss also has me running a retired agents office until a new one is chosen (its an hour away with no pay increase or mileage pay). Also, no benefits! Should I start job searching?

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

So I've been at my job for 5+ years as a data analyst/back office support team. I made my way up into making a little over $40k. I've been WFH the past 2 yrs and overtime more than half my team has now been pulled out to work for a diff department which resulted in me taking 90% of our daily tasks to handle. I'm at a point where the salary I'm getting is disrespectfully low for all the work I do. Should I ask for a raise? And if so, how do I go about asking without sounding greedy.

In my organization, most with my role are commission based. I make a set salary due to the firm I work for as an account manager/ coordinator for clients… I coordinate their enrollments, working with each groups HR department as to benefits and payroll purposes, and schedule our benefit counselors accordingly. I am finding that in most cases where I compare the voluntary benefits industry, I might be underpaid. What is an appropriate base salary for a position in which commission is replaced?
