Don’t do it. There’s so many unknowns with a new firm. If you’re happy where you’re at, why risk things being significantly worse?
Best way to preserve relationships is if you go to a firm with a practice group your current firm doesn’t have (that’s still closely enough related to what you currently do that it’s not a whole retool), and tell your firm you want to get more experience in that area and unfortunately have to go elsewhere but would love to stay in touch
Have to restart from scratch on relationships. Partners to source work, juniors for support. Also have to start over on precedent unless you’re able to outsmart firm IT.
The lose of precedent is real. Never printed anything so ended up taking photos of certain forms/drafts/redlines lol

Lateraling from whre you started and you like it is a crazy idea...its genuinely very risky and usually not a great experience
Yes this is a terrible idea. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Pick up a hobby
Rebuilding relationships and credibility. Having to learn and navigate new work styles and preferences; new culture and unspoken rules; worrying about stepping on toes or committing unknown faux pas. Starting back at zero with client institutional knowledge. Re-creating your own internal organizational systems. Discovering annoying firm policies after you’ve started. And this is leaving out the possibility that one or more of your new colleagues turn out to be terrible.
I mean, there are so many reasons not to move if you’re happy where you are. And this is coming from someone who’s made some moves…even when it’s a good move for a good reason, it’s kind of the worst!
There is a small chance it might be better. There is a larger chance it could be so, so much worse

All of the above. Find a way to make your current job more challenging. Changing firms out of boredom is borderline insanity.
