I also did Boston-NY-Boston and am now in Charleston, SC. I met my husband in NY so don’t let others scare you about dating! I agree with the above about it opening my eyes. There’s so much to do in NY and people have all types of backgrounds and lifestyles. I ended up leaving NY after 4 years to go back to Boston to be closer to family. NY toughened me up and helped my career so it was worth it.
I love Charleston! That’s awesome.
Go! Even if for a few years to have new experiences and meet new people. I did Boston - NY - Boston. NY was in my 20s and it was such a life impacting experience. Once I lived in NY, I could tackle anything new especially travel. Living, working and socializing in NY completely opened my eyes. My two cents is that Boston is the safe thing if you’ve been here a while, the world is way bigger than Boston, go get it!! And yes I settled in Boston but treasure those NY years.
I moved to NY in my mid 20s after going undergrad and working a couple of years. This was the first time as an adult where I didn’t really have the safety net of my college friends and being in a familiar place consistently. My NY experience was the opportunity to meet new and different kinds of people (outside of my undergrad bubble) and the exploration opportunities were endless on where and what to do. NY helped me “grow up” and expand my horizons. I came back to Boston because I met someone, it just felt like it was time. Overall, I’m proud I took the leap of faith to NY
Feel free to DM!
There’s a saying’No one moves to NY to get married’ so dating sounds good but less likely to settle down. All my friends in NY haven’t gotten married unless they moved there already in a relationship.
M1 like where did they go?
NYC wise I was thinking I’d eventually find something serious enough that we both decide we’re good to leave nyc, lol. Extraction mission
Go for it.
I’m considering the same for the same. I lived in Boston for 4 years post grad (also grew up in the area), and been in New York for the last 3 years. If you have the flexibility to do so with remote status, why not? Everything is temporary and you can move back if you want to - this was the mind set I had when I moved to NYC in the first place and it is true pending my next point…
My biggest issue now is I’m stuck here in NYC because my job is here now and I’m not seeing as many job opportunities in Boston for what I do. If your endgame is to move to Boston and look for a new job that isn’t remote, I would make sure there’s enough opportunities in that space. I also think having worked in both cities (including the same company in Boston and NYC), Boston working culture is much more laid back so I’m not sure how aligned Boston is for “career acceleration”. That is not the say there aren’t great firms and great opportunities, but NYC is a beast when it comes to work - it’s a pressure cooker for success in your career, but not much else. That’s just my experience, of course.
Do you have friends in Boston or why do you think social life in Boston would be superior? If you had a fruitful social/dating life in NYC, would you be more compelled to stay? Where do you see yourself long term (if anywhere)?
Incredibly honest and insightful answer, thanks. Mind if I DM you?
