It's basically a 9-6 job though which is nice. I did it before MBA. Promotions are slow and raises/bonuses low (although JPM/ms/GS pay significantly better though). Make sure you get the comp you want before you're hired. I'd also definitely not recommend some of the shittier banks. JPMorgan paid a bonus 10x higher And gave me 4x raises compared to Citi....and I was ranked worse at JPM and didn't even work a full year.
Big no. Used to be in front office banking before consulting. Don't jump boat to a back office function. Not making $$ sense, not making hours sense, not making any sense, unless it's vp and above level. Stay in consulting for more years and jump and become vp fp&a or finance director. Much better hours and higher pay and more visible in an organization
What level, officer title, and salary? And what's your current level in consulting. I can give you advice based on that.
Absolutely do not come in analyst level. With two years experience consulting you are definitely associate level. I would ask for $100k minimum, but as others have said, best to wait for vp level
Hb exit opps?
Fek the offer is with citi
2 years in - experienced associate. Would come in at analyst maybe associate level
Lol...Citi is not a "major investment bank" it's a consumer garbage bank.
Interesting. Thank you guys for the feedback. What are exit opps for fp&a and how do they place in B school?
I got into a M7, but I think I was helped by the fact I graduated with a finance degree in the clusterf*ck year '09 and had a high GMAT. Most ops people I know ended up in Duke/Darden level schools if they had a high GMAT, or Carnegie Mellon level if they didn't.
But is FP&A really considered ops? I would think more middle then back, no? And from what I understand pre b school fp&a background helps a lot in moving into strategy consulting gigs post mba. I guess trying to look at it from all angles.
Fp&a is part of finance function not Ops but it's not revenue generating although fp&a folks do provide insights into the revenue/cost side of business.
