You need H/S/W and even then it will be extremely competitive given your background. Most of the kids in those schools going into the top shops have 2 years of top IB experience and then 2 years of mid to top PE experience. Just getting the stamp on the resume and then going back in
... so you’re saying there’s a chance?!
It might be impossible absent H/S/W and relevant PE experience
Unlikely. Not saying don’t go back, but this will be a difficult transition
Have friends who are at Stanford and Wharton. Can confirm that PE is pretty much impossible if you don’t have relevant background. 7-10% PE placement, ~85% of which had IB/PE exposure. This means that roughly 8 Wharton grads / 4 Stanford grads go into PE without prior experience, and who knows which firms they’re going to / what their backgrounds are...
What’s REPE? If you don’t do PE pre MBA you won’t go directly there Post MBA
@Barclays1 Real estate PE, presumably.
Yes, real estate PE
Appreciate the feedback!
Also, make sure you go to a school that has grads going into PE. Wharton is a good example
At this point, I think I’d only go for H/S/W with a strong pref to stay on the East coast
How did you get to your REPE firm, OP?
Yep chance > 0. Not sure if you’d get positive expected NPV though.
@analyst 1 - I worked in Real estate lending out of undergrad and moved to REPE after 2 years
Also, the CFA track (had passed level 2) looked good while interviewing
Know if the trajectory is any different if you’re in RE IB?
I would think that’s comparable. For lower level recruiting, REPEs generally just look for an interest in real estate, modeling skills, and any Argus or other stuff is gravy. The interest can be shown through previous experience and ability to articulate an in investment thesis
