Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

I did, but interned a a boutique that didn't give return offers until January, so I was in the position of re-recruiting no matter what. Ended up with a different offer that I accepted, even before I knew I didn't get a return offer from the internship firm.
I do a lot of recruiting interviews now, and if you can tell a thoughtful and self-aware story about why you are not going back, it is not necessarily the end of the world.
Standard line would be something like I didn’t enjoy working w the people / didn’t like the culture and think X firm would be better for Y reason. It’s a hard one to talk around, ballsy question on interviewers’ part IMO to ask whether you received an offer. I usually wouldn’t ask that Q at BCG - honestly people tend to think of themselves highly enough that they can make a determination regardless of what another firm said. Of course, will vary by firm / person
Didn’t like working with the people is a big statement, some recruiters are anal and talk to that team. Could burn some bridges before you even made them, I’d be careful
Second q- very happy.
Prob bc the firm I interned at was more boutique, I never got a single question about whether I received an offer or not. I had answers ready though- specifically, why I would want to work at s& over that firm, w/o disparaging the boutique.
DM me if you want more specific advice.
Totally depends on what you interned for and what you rerecruit for. If you don’t get an offer from MBB after an internship, it will likely be difficult to get a full-time offer at other similar consulting firms. Unless it’s a more specific consulting firm maybe (e.g. I really only want to do healthcare, so I want a healthcare consulting firm).
When re-recruiting, MBB didn’t ask. Big4 asked but I can’t remember if it was “did you get an offer/why not” or “why aren’t you going back.” Keep it positive. It’s bad form to complain about competitors.
Why aren’t you going back - I focused on how summer was great experience that confirmed interest in consulting bc of (reasons), but how that firm didn’t align with (things I want that firm interviewing for does)
Fill in blanks yourself as applicable to your experience - Eg loved the learning from team and camaraderie; seeking a firm that does more strategy work bc want higher level impact and exposure.
Why no offer - Summer was great experience where learned (things). Unfortunately things didn’t work out bc (thing that isn’t a deal breaker). It was a bummer but I’m still grateful for the experience. I’ve been actively working on (area) by doing (things)
Fill in blanks as applicable. Obviously, don’t say things didn’t work out bc of travel or some fake reason.
