why should you wait to do the job well for 6 months, when presumably you've already been doing well in your current role for a period of time
I recommend pushing back agressively and say that you won't take on more work unless you are compensated commensurately
Doing more work below your official level is a guaranteed path to staying at your level.
Honestly they probably won't promote you. I would do it then schedule a chat with my boss the first and 3rd month. First month so then for expectations, and goals. Third month show that you crushed those goals and ask about a promotion.
Do the job well for 6 months.
Are you just doing it temporarily until they hire someone else? If so, don't even bother bringing it up because it'll never happen.
Also, it's not really an increase in responsibility since it's a position below you. It's extra work, sure, but it's realistically work that should take you half the time it took your subordinate.
